Wilmington Fire Department Line of Duty Deaths

It is with a heavy heart the Delaware Fire Service mourns the passing of Wilmington Fire Department Lieutenant Chris Leach and Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes who both passed away in the Line of Duty on September 24, 2016.

Lieutenant Chris Leach, Engine 6 and Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes, Squad 4 were tragically killed at a Residential Fire when the 1st floor collapsed and they became trapped.

Funeral Services:
The funeral service for Lieutenant Christopher Leach will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Clayton Street, Wilmington, DE.
 
There will be a viewing from 1000 to 1200 hours, followed by a funeral mass at 1200 hours.
 
There will be no burial service.
 
Uniformed participation and departmental honors in the funeral service is limited to the Wilmington Fire Department, Talleyville Fire Company, and New Castle County Paramedics.
 
Any other Fire or EMS Service personnel who wish to attend should wear appropriate civilian attire and enter with the general public.
 
No Fire Apparatus other than the Wilmington Fire Department and the Talleyville Fire Company permitted.
 
There will be a viewing for Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes on Thursday, September 29 from 1700 to 1800 at Grace Lutheran Church 2033 Graves Road at Newport Gap Pike in Hockessin.
 
Uniformed participation and departmental honors in the funeral service is limited to the Wilmington Fire Department and the Newark Fire Department.
 
Any other Fire or EMS Service personnel who wish to attend should wear appropriate civilian attire and enter with the general public.
 
The funeral service for Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes will be held on Friday, September 30, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2033 Graves Road, Hockessin. 
 
There will be a viewing from 1400 to 1600 hours, followed by the religious service at 1600 hours. 
 
Uniformed participation and departmental honors in the funeral service is limited to the Wilmington Fire Department and the Newark Fire Department.
 
Any other Fire or EMS Service personnel who wish to attend should wear appropriate civilian attire and enter with the general public.
 
There is no burial service.
 
No Fire Apparatus other than the Wilmington Fire Department and the Newark Fire Department permitted.
 
Memorial Service:
There will be a joint Memorial Service for both Lieutenant Chris Leach and Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes on Saturday, October 1 at 1300 hours at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington.
 
This service will include full fire departmental honors and it is requested that all fire departments participate with apparatus and personnel in full uniform.
 
Planning for the Memorial Service is underway and details will be disseminated as available. There will be no procession, but apparatus will be parked so as to provide a display of participation and respect.
