NCC Fire Service Co-Sponsors Special Olympics Delaware Over the Edge

On Thursday, May 14th, the New Castle County Fire Service started a new partnership with the Special Olympics Delaware by co-sponsoring Over the Edge at the the Brandywine Reality Building, 300 Delaware Avenue, City of Wilmington.
14 volunteer fire companies, 4 ladies auxiliaries and all 4 associations contributed to raise over $11,000 for Special Olympics of Delaware.
Four members of the volunteer fire service participated as "Edgers". Fire Chiefs Rich Perillo of Christiana Fire Company and Mark Harris of Claymont Fire Company, Bill Harris of Claymont Fire Company and Fire Inspector Chip Thompson of the Delaware City Refinery Fire Department all went "Over the Edge". The four of them raised an additional $5,580.
Several members of the fire service were on hand during the day manning a table along with the New Castle County Department of Public Safety Communications Division. Members of the fire service worked the crowd for smoke detector needs, recruitment and premise history information. NCC 911 Center provided information for the SMART 911 Initiative.
NCC Fire Service would like to thank Champion Trophies for donating 500 red wrist bands that were given away during the event.
Thank you to Patti Carnevale, Ann Marie and Gene Krystopolski, Michelle Garcia, Joe Mullen, Richard Perillo Sr., Rich Perillo, Jim Facciolo, Christine Bennett, Allison Lowe, Jeromy Walters, Herb Dougherty and to Thomas "Twink' Kermode" and Kristen Welch from the 911 Center for spending the day working the event.
Special thank you to Special Olympics Delaware Event Coordinator Lisa Smith [of the Newark Fire Department] for all her assistance in helping us along as we became one of the co-sponsors this year. Her help was greatly appreciated.
It was a rewarding time and we look forward to working the Special Olympics Delaware on other events and especially the 2016 Over the Edge Event.
